Old Town of Salers

Some time ago, I found  paintings of Salers in an art book.  I'm not quite sure if this was a dream or  if it really happened.  I am an active dreamer.  I often find places when I travel as though I have already seen them before.  Salers was one of those places.

Salers won an award as one of the most beautiful villages in France and it ranked as one of the most ideal cities to retire in by the French .  It is 42km North of Aurillac in the Auvergne Region/ Massif Central / South Central France. Contrary to popular belief, the beauty of France does not remain within the Paris borders alone.  There are far more magnificent sites beyond the capital.

There were a lot of tourists, mostly French from other regions traveling and trying out the delicacies and visiting countless charming specialty shops within this old merchant town.  Like time travel, the architecture illustrates an evolution from the middle ages to the renaissance.   The city is built on two basalt rocks resting between Puy Mary and Dordogne River.

I don't think I could ever get enough of France within my lifetime.  I would need to spend years and years to see and experience what this country has to offer.

XOXO,
Arni

    1. Our original plan was to take a nap that afternoon. Fortunately, we all decided to take a long meandering drive to Salers. We're all glad we didn't sit this one out. Speaking of drive, that was a really adventurous ride you had to the theater. :)
