Peace and Love Resort

Planning a trip to  San Vicente on the main island of Palawan, Philippines and wondering where to stay?  Peace and Love Resort is definitely the place! It's a Balinese inspired  family-run hotel that offers personalized service. Serenely nestled on a hill above San Vicente town proper, overlooking the tranquil waters of San Vicente shoreline, rooms and various public areas within the property are built on staggered levels to seize the sea view.

We stayed in a different place, a backpacker's inn, but we spent most of our mornings and evenings in the Peace & Love Bar and Restaurant. We enjoyed hearty breakfasts here, all of which were in good sized servings and due to our frequent visits, we had a lovely time chatting with Steve, one of the owners managing the resort.

Steve came to Palawan in April 2011 to explore the island on a motorbike. According to him, San Vicente is a paradise and he decided to set up and construct a hotel and restaurant with his partner, Gemma to cater to the growing tourism industry in  San Vicente.  There were 10 rooms during our visit, with an additional 9 rooms under construction which are most likely completed.

Interior Decor & Construction:  Most furniture and accessories were imported from Bali, Indonesia and light fittings and equipment from Europe.  He was personally hands on during the construction. As expected, logistics was tricky, getting the cargo and goods shipped and delivered on site given the road conditions in San Vicente at that time. Nevertheless, against all odds, they managed and were successful in building a nicely designed resort in such a remote town.

Lounge area used sand on the floor for a  laid back beach-like setting.
An LED illuminated pool refreshingly complements the breathtaking view just right below the terrace lounge area.  Chill out music played throughout day along with the sounds of sea breeze, whipping of the palm leaves and birds. There is also stair pathway access to the beach and most importantly, they have a 24-hour generator, which is considered a luxury in the daily scheduled electricity cuts in Palawan.

Accommodation:
All rooms are Deluxe room with the same Balinese style, at a minimum cost of Php 2000 (USD $ 47 / Eur 36) per night without breakfast. There is a minibar, a safety deposit box,  spacious private bathroom with hot & cold shower with solar powered heaters, free Wi-fi, air conditioning, and TV. Each room has a balcony with a lounge chair and the prices of each vary depending on the room view.

They also have a 50-square meter family room with 1 King Bed and 2 Single Beds for Php 2,900 (USD $ 68 /Eur 52) per night with Php 500 (USD $ 12 / Eur 9) for an extra bed.

Restaurant and Bar:
The restaurant offers International and Filipino Cuisine. Their home-made pizza is a must-try.

What we found really interesting was the Still Standing After 10  signboard looming near the entrance next to the bar.

Drink a list of 10 shooters such as: Green Gecht, Blue Shark, Tequila Slammer, Palawan Monkey, Sex on the Beach, Coco Loco, Palawan Slammer, Mabuhay, The Peace & Love, and Final Count Down. Drink all these as fast as possible and if you're still up, you win a  Peace & Love T-shirt and they'll engrave the winner's name  at the San Vicente "Wall of Fame"

Do it for your country. So far No. 1 place goes to Russia.

They have lovely cocktails personally concocted,  mixed and prepared by Steve. We enjoyed the food, the chill out ambiance here. It's definitely a great place to go to for a romantic dinner and  to meet other tourists for a good chat while you're in San Vicente.
