Dol-de-Bretagne

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

French brittany is located on the north-west of France. It is famous for its gray weather, rich history, distinct architecture with lots of medieval forts.

Not to mention, their cuisine! Their very own special drink- the Cider,  a clear or cloudy beverage with fine foamy head in yellowish mahogany color made from fresh cider apples.  Brittany also known as Breton is the second largest Cider producing region in France.  Cider or Cidre is usually served in tea cups  along with their famous Galette , very thin wide unsweetened pancakes made from buckwheat flour wrapped around ham, eggs and cheese.  Yum!

This is where I had a taste of the famous Galette Complete with Cidre.
Moules-frites are very cheap here too.
Due to its close proximity to the sea, fresh sea food and fish are very popular and cheaper here.  Most especially during the summer season where you have delectable oysters and overflowing bowls of mussels, the Moules-frites.  Mussels cooked in butter, garlic, shallots and dry white wine served with french fries. This and a glass of Chardonnay ? Ah super!

I could get carried away with food here, so moving on. We were headed towards St. Malo and Mont St. Michel. We went for a stopover in Dol-de-Bretagne for the evening. We were staying in a bed and breakfast or Chambre d'hotes in  Le Vivier Sur Mer for the night.

The whole stopover in Dol-de-Bretagne was unplanned but so worth it!   Mont Dol can be seen from a distance, an isolated granite rock resembling an island on the flat coastal plane. Celtic history mentions a religious battle between the devil and Archangel Michael to have taken place here.

The fascinating Dol Cathedral
This 13th-century old cathedral welcomed us as we entered the city. Lined by tall trees shading the town square. I couldn't help being amazed by the exceptional medieval architecture as we drove. It was like being transported back in time. Remove all the cars in the parking lot and you'd think you time traveled.

  1. I had to remember the correct way of pronouncing the French terms and names while reading this. I'm suddenly reminded of my love of this language, if only I could get better at it. But when you live in a country with no French-speaking people, that's hard to do. Anyhoo, France is one of my dream destinations so I am having a blast reading your travels there. They sure have fine architectures, very Instagrammable.

I have always wanted to know more of France, as I've always thought it is a very interesting and pretty country. And I thought French was the most exquisite language in the world when growing up hehe
