A Little Girl Named Anaïs

At 4 months during her first professional photo shoot at Pink Pepper Photography

I have never really written and dedicated a sole post on my now 8-month old daughter Anaïs apart from her birth announcement. I did, however, frequently mention her in my personal notes.  When she crossed the 6 month mark, she gradually started exhibiting fragments of her personality. Vivacious. Extroverted. Gregarious. These are three perfect adjectives to describe what I witness everyday.

She's more interested in interaction and books. She loves people. She would tirelessly listen to adult conversations as if she's a part of it to the point of forcing herself to wake up when her eyes seem to drift off to sleep.  She gets excited when we have visitors at home and loves to smile at passengers in the plane.  My husband even quoted once, "She has way better social skills than we do." I couldn't agree more.

She likes story telling.  Her favorite part is, "And they lived happily ever after. The End." I started reciting this poem to her. Though she couldn't walk yet, she seems to like it. One of my goals for this month is to:

Memorize a Favorite Love Poem

For me, this poem will always be linked to her.  Here goes:

She Walks in Beauty
by Lord Byron

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes & starry skies;
And all that's best of dark & bright
Meet in her aspect & in her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven trees
Or softly lightens o'er her face:
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
but tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent.

What is your favorite poem?
Love & light,
Arni

  1. Oh, this is so sweet and beautiful! She sounds like a delight. I could even relate to tirelessly listening to adult conversations which I, too, endlessly used to do as a child :)
