La Fête du Muguet

It's the 1st of May and today not only marks La Fête du Travail or Labor Day but also a lovely occasion here in France called La Fête du Muguet where a bouquet of Lily of the Valley is offered to loved ones.

History has it that King Charles IX received one as a gift in May 1, 1561. He appreciated the gesture and decided to give Lily of the Valley flowers to the ladies in the court same day each year. In France, families in the countryside usually wake up early to pick flowers in the woods. They are also abundantly sold in the street at this time of year.

Yohann, my husband surprised me with a small bouquet this morning and its delicate scent brings joy. J'adore l'odeur!  It is believed to bring happiness and good luck.

Here's a virtual bouquet for you. Wishing you a season of blessings, good fortune and joy.
Love & light,
Arni

  1. It's a strange coincidence, but I'm just smelling lily of the valleys that are standing in front of me next to my computer. I put them in a little vase this morning :)
My country celebrates May Day with a two day national holiday. The whole city smells of barbecue since everybody is out at picnics
