In Pursuit of the Island Life

Bulog Dos Island, Coron, Philippines
A long pause.

34 hours from the time we left home in France, we arrived enervated from the extremely long travel and delays. That was 18 days ago. I couldn't bring myself to connect online since. Partly because reality hit us at the same time humidity welcomed us with its wide embrace in Manila.

A week after our arrival, we flew aboard an economy airline for an hour to get to Busuanga. We immediately started working, networking and chasing after what we needed to accomplish. We did approach the right people. Unfortunately, our primary goal in order to operate our business here led us to several dead ends. This goal was so necessary, it determines whether we should stay or move on looking for another place and start again from zero.

We have a few days left and much as it could get stressfully discouraging at times, I strongly believe dead ends always lead to better if not perfect opportunities that is rightfully meant for us, and in so doing meant for others too.

Last Sunday, since all offices are closed, we took a short break. A Sundate Island Hop to Bulog Dos, Banana Island and Malcapuya, an hour and a half boat ride away from the main island.  All of which are white sandy beaches, clear waters with rich underwater landscape that reminds me of small villages. My husband and I spent a lot of time snorkeling admiring clown fish, giant clams and beautiful corals. One particular fish was amusing. It started poking my goggles ready to fight for its territory. It stayed in front of me and stared me right in the eyes.  I watched it with admiration.

Am I ready to fight for our family's dream and protect it? Just like this fish? I smiled inside my goggles and then the fish swam away and went back inside a coral.

Lesson learned:  Everything happens for a reason. Giving everything our best shot, we'll be as fierce as this fish who knows what it wants and is ready to fight for it, but there are fights not worth fighting for because there are other avenues that Life has pre-determined for us. Listening to my heart, I'm grateful we have foregone this pursuit because we are much happier living somewhere else.

Love & light,
Arni
