Flippin Pizza

Calling all pizza lovers! Fancy an authentic hand-tossed New York style pizza that you can watch right before your eyes as they're being made?  Now grab your stuff and head over to the recently opened Flippin Pizza, an American pizza chain at Ibn Battuta Mall  China Court.

We were warmly greeted at the entrance and were seated immediately. The place is hard to miss. It is right at the corner where Sharaf DG is, ground floor across Al Ansari Exchange.

The restaurant ambience is child-friendly. We had a baby stroller with us so there was a corner table that suits us perfectly. Not too much noise along with a vibrant interior that is both welcoming and warm.

We arrived early so I was lucky to have taken pictures of the interior without much people but after 30 minutes it was packed!  There is a huge screen at the far end of the restaurant displaying a view of down town New York City simulating a window.

There's an interesting variety of starters, salads, pizza, pasta, calzone and desserts in the menu. Starters like Bruschetta (AED 25), Chicken Tenders (AED 28 ) Jalapeno Cheese Poppers (AED 22), Garlic Bread (AED 23) and more to choose from.

We were served complimentary twisted bread made of pizza dough along with a tangy spicy tomato sauce that I really enjoyed while waiting for our food.

You can also be entertained by the skillful pizza makers as they tossed your pizza dough high up in the air. I was fascinated and couldn't help filming one of guys.  I wonder how long it takes to acquire this skill. According to him, he's been doing this for five years now.  Check out this unedited video:

Our order, an 18" mega size half Bronx and half Brooklyn thin crust pizza arrived at our table shortly around 15 minutes. The size is great for family and for voracious eaters like us as we split them for 2.

Bronx is topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, garlic, onion, olives and capsicum. While Brooklyn has meatballs, pepperoni, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, mushroom and garlic.  This type and size of pizza costs AED 81.

Verdict:  The taste reminds me of the pizza we ate in New York City. It was flavorful and one gets the feeling that ingredients used were fresh.  I enjoyed both Bronx and Brooklyn, but my palate at that time of visit craved a more pepperoni driven taste so I opted more of the Brooklyn.  I have yet to try the others. A more meaty option is Triboro, which mostly consists of meatballs and sausages. It is quite expensive so it's definitely not an everyday lunch destination.

Shall we go back again?  Definitely.

  3. Can't believe you managed to get some snaps of the interior with no one in it! That never happens! Now on to the pizza... I am very sad to admit this but I have totally gone off pizza. My husband is understandably very upset by this as his Friday nights will never be the same again. It happened over night but the thought of the cheesy dough makes me want to run a mile. I love the look of that bread though!

  6. I know exactly where this is near Sharaf DG. The video is great and he really is so skillful. I know I would enjoy the twisted bread and the pizza looks really appetising with a thin, crispy base which I prefer.
