Quiet Streets of Tokyo on a Long Weekend

Perhaps Tokyo must look similar to this now but with less people during the COVID-19 quarantine period.  Guess what?  This photo was taken last year before a long holiday weekend during a morning stroll and subway trip from Tokyo's suburbs to Tamachi area. It was quiet, a huge contrast to the weekday hustle and bustle.

When you feel thirsty and hungry from walking, there are vendo machines at every street corner.

There are over 5 million vendo machines in Japan. Why?

  1. I don't think we have a single vending machine in our country. Our streets will be empty like that too as our 24h curfew will be on from Friday afternoon till Tuesday morning, so five days without going out even to the shop.

    1. Here in the province and in residential areas of the city, we very rarely have vending machines but we have "sari-sari stores" little makeshift shops in front of homes selling small goods at every street corner. Oh wow, 24h curfew now? Take care Dezzy.

    2. Yes, we have kiosks too and also stands. My own city is organized in such a way that every block has its little supermarket, greengrocers or even a green market with a few stalls, a few bakeries, newspaper stand, post office and usually a drugstore too, so we don't have to venture out to the downtown for everything. The curfew will last for 84 hours straight :) due to Orthodox Easter, so that nobody can go out to churches and such things. It is very cruel, though, as none of the other countries in Europe has such strict measures, but our dictator likes to rule the Orvelian way, sadly, and it really works on uneducated and old people - the more he molests us the more they support him.

    3. It's great that you have access to goods at every block. That kind of curfew seems strict and tough. I guess whatever works out well for everyone's safety and to immediately flatten the curve. Keep safe
