I Love Chateaux # 5: Chateau de Pesteils
Chateau de Pesteils - Located in Auvergne Region, France in Polminhac. This is a castle we have missed. During our last trip, I annoyed my in-laws by convincing them to visit a castle whenever I see a marker on the road or an interesting pamphlet in the hotel reception. Finally, they agreed to see this one for me on the way home. Guess what? It was closed. Tant pis.
Beyond this point, where I was standing to take this photo, it is restricted. So what did I miss? It's a medieval castle built in the 13th Century nestled on top of a hill. From the meandering main road below, you'll get a glimpse of this imposing structure. We also missed the 15th century ceiling frescoes and 17th century furniture. There are amazing views of the Cantal mountains from its balcony. It's privately owned. Visiting season in 2012 was between 15th of April - 30th of September.

It looks like it's peeking out from a fairytale. Can't you imagine a princess riding a coach up to the front gate? Ahh well, next time!
ReplyDeleteHaha, You're right..it does look magical. Great setting for a fantasy novel even. I've seen good reviews from visitors in Trip Advisor.
DeleteLooks like a great place to visit!
ReplyDeleteThey might be renting it out for parties too. I wonder how a fairy tale themed wedding would be like in the gardens there.
DeleteIt's a pity that you couldn't visit that beautiful castle, looks like it has some wonderful secrets.
